Common questions

My steps are wrong or missing

Daily totals come from Apple Health, so StepsPal shows whatever Health has. Check Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → StepsPal and confirm Steps is on. If you carry your phone in a bag rather than a pocket, iOS undercounts — that is the sensor, not the app.

A recorded walk counted no steps

Recording counts steps with the motion coprocessor, which needs Motion access: Settings → Privacy & Security → Motion & Fitness. Without it StepsPal falls back to estimating from your pace and time. Rides and rowing never count steps, deliberately — wheels and oars are not footsteps.

It suggested somewhere that was closed

No Apple API provides real opening hours, so StepsPal uses conservative typical hours per category and declines to suggest a place when it is unsure. It will still get this wrong sometimes. Tell us where and when and we will tighten the category.

It named my photograph wrong

Identification uses a vision model and is frequently wrong at the species level. Treat a low-confidence guess as a guess.

My plan is empty

StepsPal plans into the gaps in your calendar. With no calendar or reminders access it has very little to work with — grant them in Settings → StepsPal, or use "Just walk" to record without a plan.

Cancelling a subscription

Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device. Deleting the app does not cancel it. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Deleting everything

Progress → gear icon → Start over erases your goal, preferences, step history, walks and collected photographs from the phone and from our servers. It cannot be undone.
